                      PREPARED TEXT

                            LIKE A PRO


               (and Not Look Like You’re Reading)





              repared text does not make sense for everyone. For most
          Ppeople, speaking from notes or an outline or even extemporane-
           ously is more effective and certainly more believable. But sometimes
           prepared text is the clear choice. For example, when:
              The legal beagles insist you say every word on the page.
              There is a consistent party line that everyone in your organiza-
                 tion has to adhere to.
              You have a precise time slot to fi ll.
              You have no preparation time, and the speech is prepared for

                 you by someone else, or you find yourself having to give
                 someone else’s speech.
              Your speech has an accompanying slide show requiring
                 rehearsal and precise cues.

              You feel more confident and comfortable reading from a text
                 than trying to speak extemporaneously or from notes or
                 an outline.
