About the Author
Dr. Mohammad Najafi, P.E., is an
assistant professor and the director
of the Center for Underground
Infrastructure Research and Edu-
cation (CUIRE) in the Depart-
ment of Civil Engineering at The
University of Texas at Arlington.
He received his B.S. from Texas
Tech University, M.S. from Purdue University, and
Ph.D. from Louisiana Tech University. He is the
founder and editor-in-chief of the new ASCE Journal
of Pipeline Systems Engineering and Practice. Dr. Najafi’s
research interests are in the area of pipelines and
underground infrastructure systems construction,
renewal, and asset management, with emphasis on
the utilization of innovative methods and trenchless
technology. His research has been widely published
in technical journals and professional and trade
conference proceedings, and he has been a consul-
tant and expert witness on many pipelines and
trenchless technology projects. He can be reached
