25 Your Memory's Rhythms

In addition to the Memory Principles you have been applying
throughout this book, there are two major areas that, if you
understand them, will enable you to double the efficiency of your
memory while you are taking in information and then to double it
again after you have taken the information in: (1) recall during
learning; and (2) recall after learning.

           Recall During a Learning Period
In order for you to see clearly how your memory rhythms function
during a standard learning period, it will be useful for you to
experience a brief 'recall during a learning period' yourself. To do
this, follow these instructions carefully: read the long list of words
below, one word at a time, once only, without using any memory
systems or techniques, and without going back over any words. The
purpose of your reading the list will be to see how many of the
words you can remember without using any of the Memory
Principles. The order does not matter. So when you are reading
the list, simply try to remember as many of the words as you can.
