Plate 12 Mt Sakurajima is located in the south of the Japanese island of Kyushu, opposite the city of
Kagoshima and often erupts ‘while you wait’ (Chapter 9). The full moon gives the scenery a special appeal.
Sakurajima Island’s population numbers approximately 7000 people and has a ring road with access to a
