This involves displaying thoughtful emotional and behavioral
responses, rather than being reactive or acting impulsively; being
flexible, being clear, and handling change in productive ways; mak-
ing wise decisions even when it is not possible to have all the infor-
mation or the total picture, or when the information is ambiguous,
negative, or personally troubling; staying open and receptive when
things don’t go as you expected; being considered mature by a
wide variety of people; maintaining your equilibrium under pres-
sure and helping to keep others calm in a crisis; encouraging hon-
est debate while also being willing to end a discussion and move
on; and being sensitive to issues of fairness, due process, and effec-
tive pacing when interacting with others and taking action.
