but ultimately just what we make of it.” The essence of this
book reinforces my father’s perspective that we have more
control over our success and happiness than we might
think we do. The control of our destiny starts with our self-
knowledge, core beliefs, and pervasive mindsets. These
affect our confidence, motivation, and perseverance, quali-
ties that are tied directly to our ability to be resilient in
challenging times. Each of us has the capacity to reach our
