        means that no one is going to hand us an instruction book
        to deal with change, misfortune, or failure. We are going to
        have to figure that out for ourselves, just as Hillary Clinton
        did. Hillary’s extraordinary success was largely due to her
        ability to live and lead within the Secrets of Being Resilient.
        As this book illustrates, she had many disappointments,
        setbacks, and changes in her life. What helped her to get
        through to “the other side of the storm” was her true
        endurance and resilience. We can learn so very much from
        her. As you continue to build your self-awareness, I hope
        you will use the insights in this book to tap into her 6 Lead-
        ership Secrets of Being Resilient, Being a Continuous
        Learner, Being Authentic, Embracing Change, Being
        Connected, and Leading with Purpose in order to make
        great choices for yourself and others.

        Remember, resilience is not running a marathon and cross-
        ing the finish line, but rather, it’s tapping into your inner
        core and knowing that you can do it! I remember that in
        2008 Macy’s had “Believe” on the side of its holiday shop-
        ping bags. Perhaps that word should be the slogan for
        becoming a resilient leader. Those who are “great” leaders,
        and who will successfully persevere through the days
        ahead, will believe in themselves and create powerful
