        fail because people underestimate the amount of effort it
        takes to implement and sustain the change.
           The following secrets focus on how to both personally
        embrace and professionally deliver change.



                x SECRET 1: RECOGNIZE THE z
                   HUMAN FACTOR IN CHANGE

        As human beings, we all get into a pattern in terms of how
        we think, what we assume, and how we behave that can
        potentially limit our ability to see the need for change. Add
        to that the fact that change can be disorienting, uncomfort-
        able, and even scary, and the result is a natural resistance to
        change. The best way to counter this negative reaction is to
        understand the normal phases that people go through when
        they are faced with change that affects them personally.
           Think of a time when you experienced significant
        change, whether it was in your personal life or at work.
