LEADERSHIP SECRETS OF HILLARY CLINTON
cess. Hillary’s resilience, hard work, and commitment to
moving through this significant change in her life success-
fully enabled her to get to this stage fairly quickly. You can
do the same thing by taking a visible role as a change agent.
x SECRET 2: NEVER RESIST A z
GOOD CHANGE—GET AHEAD OF IT
It’s normal to initially be wary of any major change, but
now that you understand the human factor of change, you
can take steps to move through the natural resistance phase
as quickly as possible. Then, your opportunity to add value
as a resilient leader depends on your ability to get ahead of
the change.
Remember that being a resilient leader encompasses
being adaptable and flexible. It assumes that you are com-
fortable with change and are open to things like a reorgan-
ization or a new way of doing things. It assumes that you
want to learn about the changing conditions and be proac-
tive in your response to them. But you can’t do any of this if
you are resisting the change.
If you are experiencing change and can feel yourself
resisting it, ask yourself these questions:
• Am I reluctant to support the change effort?
• Is my resistance more than just an initial reaction to
it?
