up some of our control, new opportunities open up for us.
In many cases, we are able to expand our knowledge in
other areas, learn new ways of doing things, and possibly
even get clearer about what is really important to us at the
end of the day.
The best way to get to the root of this perception prob-
lem is to take a realistic look at what you actually have to
simply accept as a result of the change or transition, and
what you still control or can influence.
Here are some questions to help you do this.
• What are the things that I can’t control about this
change? Who is making these decisions? Why might
they be doing what they are doing? How might I
benefit from this change?
• If I lose control of these things, what’s the worst that
can happen?
• What are some things that I can control? How can I
influence these aspects of the change?
• What can I do immediately to take advantage of the
situation?
• Who can help me to figure things out and put
together a plan of action that moves me in a positive
direction?
