they would cause flicker and consequent imprecision, and generally the bulk of droplets are of the order
of 2-5 µm in diameter when the aerosol exits the spray chamber. One consequence of this is that the
sample transport system is inefficient, of the order of 1-2%. On exiting the spray chamber, the gas
stream containing the aerosol is directed through the injector tube which forms part of the quartz torch,
