of hope—vision, a path forward, and the confidence that resources are
accessible—and we off er specific practices for each.
The last of the chapters on the Five Core Strategies is Chapter 7,
“The Path of Integrity: Making Choices for the Good of the Whole.”
In it we liken integrity to wholeness. On a personal level, this means
being true to yourself. On an organizational level, it means working in
service to the whole. On a global level, it is a call for leaders to balance
the triple bottom line—people, profit, and planet.
In Chapter 8, “Making a Positive Difference with Appreciative
Leadership,” we reinforce our belief that each individual has a unique
“domain of positive power.” We continue by describing fi ve specifi c
ways readers will make a positive difference in the world as they move
more deeply into the practice of Appreciative Leadership to “be the
change they wish to see in the world.” 8
In the Conclusion, we summarize the book’s key messages, and we
provide a closing activity that will enable readers to synthesize what
they have learned by writing their leadership story. Finally, we share
our vision for the future of Appreciative Leadership.
Now—begin your exploration! This is your book. It is fi lled with
ideas about Appreciative Leadership and positive power. Some of what
you read will be new to you, and some will seem familiar. We hope
that, as you read and reflect upon the new, it will expand who you are
as a leader and that, as you read and reflect upon the familiar, it will
affirm you and lift your self-confidence and courage as a leader. Above
all, we hope that you will find the many practices described through-
out this book relevant to your work, and that these practices will be
easy for you to adopt and align with your deepest values and goals.
