                                BIOGRAPHIES

                                Huosheng Hu earned the M.Sc. degree in industrial automation from the
                                Central South University in China and the Ph.D. degree in robotics from
                                the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Currently, he is a pro-
                                fessor in Computer Science in the University of Essex, leading the Human
                                Centred Robotics Group. His research interests include autonomous mobile
                                robots, human-robot interaction, evolutionary robotics, multi-robot collabora-
                                tion, embedded systems, pervasive computing, sensor integration, RoboCup,
                                intelligent control and networked robotics. He has published over 200 papers
                                in journals, books and conferences in these areas. He is one of the editors-in-
                                chief for International Journal of Automation and Computing, and a member
                                of program committees for many international conferences. He is a Chartered
                                Engineer, a senior member of IEEE, and a member of IEE, AAAI, ACM,
                                IASTED and IAS.

                                Julian Ryde obtained the M.Sc. and M.A. in Physics from the University
                                of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Currently he is studying for a Ph.D.
                                degree in robotics at the University of Essex, United Kingdom. He has pub-
                                lished research papers in a number of international conferences including
                                ICRA, ICMA and IAS. He is a member of both the Institute of Physics and the
                                IEEE. His research interests include autonomous mobile robots, multi-robot
                                collaboration, 3D sensing and mapping.
                                Jiali Shen received the B.Sc. degree from Nankai University in China, in 1997,
                                and the M.Eng. degree from Tsinghua University in China in 2000. Currently,
                                he is a Ph.D. student in Department of Computer Science, University of Essex,
                                United Kingdom. His research interests include autonomous mobile robots,
                                human-robot interaction and machine learning. He has published a number of
                                research papers in journals, book chapters and international conferences.
