Having high cross-section absorption and feasibility to drug binding, gold-based
nanoparticles absorbed a great deal of attention in PT-NIRSRS. For example, gold
nanoparticles and doxorubicin were embedded in pores of mesoporous silica. Then
the chemo-photothermal therapy potentials of the carriers were examined on A549
cells. Their results demonstrated enhancing drug release in the presence of GSH
