going on around us, it’s important for managers to maintain the
human side of leadership, which includes compassion, love, and
understanding for all people.
It’s a Time for Managers to Act Swift and Be Brave
Globalization means more e-competition, crazy, new, and dis-
ruptive technologies, and rapidly changing business models—all
of which are bound to impact your employees’ morale.
Therefore, it’s time for managers to act swift and be brave.
Anything less will surely result in being shoved aside by swifter,
braver competitors.
Manager’s Checklist for Chapter 2
❏ Globalization has become ingrained in our assumptions
about how we do business, how we behave as managers,
and how we treat our employees, both near and far.
❏ If your business can function using a computer and tele-
phone line, then you’re globally capable.
❏ Managers must learn to think globally and act locally.
❏ High morale is high morale anywhere you go in the world.
❏ Virtual teams are on the rise, as technology brings us more
possibilities. The challenge is to manage them effectively.
❏ If you treat people like they are 10,000 miles away, they
will feel 10,000 miles away.
❏ Even virtuality cannot replace the glue that bonds better
than anything else—human contact.
❏ Managers are experiencing the Americanization of the
world economy.
