                         You Have Your Personal

                                  Life in Check

                 ■ Know what is important to you, and then give it at least a small
                    amount of time every day.
                 ■ Set your ground rules.
                 ■ Get your family on board.

             FREQUENTLY I HEAR SOME VERSION OF “I don’t want to be the top guy
             because I want to have a life—I want balance.” People who say this will
             have the same discontent in their work/life balance whether they choose
             farming, pharmacology, or CEOdom. It’s not a condition of the position;
             it’s a condition of the decisions you make. You can have a sense of bal-
             ance in your life and your home life in check regardless of your job title
             if you want it. It’s your own personal adjustment.
                  You can be a terrific leader without sacrificing your life. You are
             not the first or only person who has struggled with balance. Winston
             Churchill referred to it as keeping one’s life in “proportion.” Your parents
             deal with it, and your children will.
