You Have Your Personal Life in Check • 207
The art of business is in some ways balancing so that everyone wins,
so that everybody flourishes: customers flourish, team members flour-
ish, shareholders flourish, the community flourishes, government
flourishes. But understand that those balances are always temporary
because it’s human nature not to be satisfied for long. People want
to know, “What have you done for me lately?” You have to continue
to rebalance as the business grows.
ƒ
Balance is overrated. Nothing wrong with being a one-trick pony as
long as it’s a good trick.
ƒ
You won’t impress me by working longer hours than I do.
ƒ
At work, get lots done, and then leave.
What Does Having Your Home Life in Order
Mean? What Does It Look Like?
If you choose to do this (because it is your choice), you
■ Make harmonious tradeoffs with work, family, and your own
time.
■ Get your family on board.
■ Have social and home life skills that you use in business and
business skills that you use in your home life.
■ Make the decision and difficult choices to ensure enjoyment,
peace and contentment in your personal and professional life.
■ You set a good example with your family and your colleagues.
■ Listen to your mate and children when they aren’t setting
enough.
