                              Simple interpolation methods do not necessarily work for complex
                            waveforms, especially when the gap is large (Fig. 2). Unless a pattern can
                            be determined for the curve, thereby making it possible to derive a math-
                            ematical function that represents the curve, precise points within the gap
                            cannot be determined. Even if it appears that a function has been found
                            to define a complex or irregular curve,interpolation may not work because
                            the derived function is based on an insufficient sampling of the data.
