Power Supply
Some circuits require high voltage (more than 117 V DC).A cathode-ray
tube (CRT) video display needs several hundred volts. The transformers
in these appliances are step-up types.
The rectifier
The simplest rectifier circuit, called a half-wave rectifier, uses one diode to
“chop off” half of the AC input cycle. Half-wave rectification is useful in
supplies that do not have to deliver much current, or that do not need to
be especially well regulated.
