Speech synthesis
illustration. Whatever method is used for speech synthesis, certain steps
are necessary. These are as follows:
• The machine must access the data and arrange it in the proper
order.
• The allophones must be assigned in the correct sequence.
• The proper inflections must be put in.
• Pauses must be inserted in the proper places.
In addition to the foregoing, features such as the following can be
included for additional versatility and realism:
• An intended mood can be conveyed (joy, sadness, urgency, etc.) at
various moments.
• Overall knowledge of the content can be programmed in.For example,
the machine can know the significance of a story, and the importance
of each part within the story.
• The machine can have an interrupt feature to allow conversation
with a human being. If the human says something, the machine will
stop and begin listening with a speech-recognition system.
