One of the standard ways to look at data over time is through a Pareto chart. Fig. 9.1.23
depicts data found in a Pareto chart.

While looking at data over time is a standard and a good practice, there is an insidious
aspect to looking at data over time. That aspect is this—if the data being examined over
time are being examined for a short period of time, then there is no problem. But if the

data being examined are being examined over a lengthy enough period of time, then the
parameters over which the examination is made change and affect the data.
