               Tips for Success

Understanding just what is being assessed can sometimes be a challenge. Large organizations,
such as big companies or government agencies, have enormous amounts of content and many
islands of local “knowledge stores.” Blend this with the examination of current state, as well as
therebeing ahugepressuretousemoreandmorecollaborative technologies, and scope becomes
a problem. If there is a large amount of content in question, then make sure there is adequate
time to conduct an effective collaboration assessment, or spin off a project to add to the DG rollout
               Road Map.

               SUMMARY

The assessment phase for DG provides understanding and starts to seed the core data required to form
the business-aligned architecture. The DG teamdand, more importantly, the business sponsorsdwill
start to see the importance of building blocks, like an aligned business model, data governance, and the
               role of culture.
The assessments need to be tailored to your situation, but some version of the key assessments of
IMM and change capacity must be done. It is fine to take a lighter approach due to time or other
constraints, as long as the remainder of the DG program development and sustaining activities
incorporate the details. At some point, you will address the details for the required assessments if you
intend to treat data as an asset. Tailoring them means choosing when to assess, not if.
