The above examples illustrate the evolution of reactor design from a series of tem-
perature-controlled CSTRs to adiabatic plug flow reactors. In this case additional
advantage can be taken of the heat of reaction for exothermic reactions.
The simplification of the energy configuration has a major impact on reactor
development, for example with reverse-flow reactors.
