This will give more confidence to the user that purchases will accurately
reflect the certification but, as the quality management requirements are
again extremely subjective, it will cause considerable interpretive problems
and is a further need for an expanded HOTL. The route to certification
under the new Directive is given in Fig. 1.6a. When the manufacturer has
obtained a type certificate for a product, using the system in Fig. 1.6a in
accordance with the appropriate EN Standard or the essential requirements
of the Directive, the steps illustrated by Fig. 1.6b are followed in respect of
category 1 and category 2 equipment. (For category 3 equipment (intended
for Zone 2) no certification by an approved (notified) body is necessary,
The manufacturer confirms compliance by declaration and application of
CE Mark.)
