CREATING FORMULAS 4
Excel actually has four other common functions accessible via
the AutoSum button ( ) other than the Sum function, which
you can apply using the steps in this section. Just like the SUM
function, Excel applies the selected function to the adjacent
cells when you select the cells in the adjoining row or
column. The following table describes the available functions.
FUNCTION PURPOSE
Sum Adds the adjoining cells and places the total in the
selected cell.
Average Determines the average value in the adjoining range of cells.
Count Counts the number of numeric values in the adjoining
range of cells. If any of the cells contain a non-numeric
value, Excel ignores that cell.
Max Finds the maximum value in the adjoining range of cells.
Min Finds the minimum value in the adjoining range of cells.
More Displays the Insert Function dialog box. See the
Functions section "Add a Function via the Insert Function Dialog
Box" for information on using the Insert Function dialog
box to add a function.
