It may take 90 days to a year to make your career transition,
especially if you need to get some extra training, wait for your
new small business to turn a profit, or establish your value in a
new job so that you get a raise. If you decide on a career that takes
two or more years of education, you will of course have to save or
earn the money that will pay for your living expenses and educa-
tion in the interim.
Take a look at your expense list again and consider it as care-
fully as you wish. Think about things you may be able to put aside
for a while, thereby saving some extra cash for yourself as you make
your way through the process of changing occupations. For exam-
ple, you could use public transportation instead of putting wear
and tear on the car.
You’d be surprised by how you can cut corners a bit and
barely even notice it, especially if you know it’s only for a limited
