in the absence of previous violations and given the good standing of the employer, the
penalty could be reduced by the area director.
Other-than-serious violation: An other-than-serious violation has a direct relationship
to job safety and health but would not result in death or physical harm. A maximum
penalty of $7000 for each violation can be imposed. The area office may decide to issue
a citation without any penalty.
Repeated violation: A repeated violation is one in which a similar violation is found
upon reinspection; it can result in a fine of $70,000 for each violation.
