3.12.6 Arrays
Clearly, it is only through installing devices within arrays that significant
levels of electricity generation can be achieved. This also has the advantage
of shared infrastructure and maintenance costs. Many considerations must be
taken into account for device placement within arrays (e.g. wakes influencing
neighbouring devices), but many of these issues are technology-dependent.
These issues come under the topic of optimization, and are covered in Chapter 9.
3.13 BASIC HYDRODYNAMICS OF HORIZONTAL
AXIS TURBINES
Simulation of the hydrodynamic field around tidal turbines (or wind turbines)
is a challenging task, and requires advanced numerical modelling to take
