Mechanical Design and Operation of Alkanolamine Plants 269

This chart can be used in estimating the amount of methane (or dry natural gas) which will
be dissolved in a treating solution and the quantity which will remain after an equilibrium
flash separation. Data on the solubility of methane and ethane in aqueous monoethanolamine
and diethanolamine solutions, either free of acid gas or partially saturated with H2S or C02
were reported by Lawson and Garst (1976). Selected values from this study are shown in
Tables 3-9 and 3-10. It should be noted that hydrocarbon gases are appreciably more soluble
in amine solutions containing no dissolved acid gases than in solutions containing either one
or both of the acid gases.
