Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (http://www.ferc.gov/)
The FERC provides important oversight functions for many aspects of the power grid.
They maintain an important library of documents, studies, and data useful for understand-
ing power generation and transmission issues.
Geothermal Resources Council (http://www.geothermal.org) and the International Geothermal
Association (http://www.geothermal-energy.org/index.php)
The GRC and IGA are organizations that provide information, data, and historical per-
spective on the geothermal industry. Both hold annual meetings at which recent research
results are presented and trade organizations are available for discussion of technology,
law, and regulatory issues. The GRC maintains one of the world’s premier libraries at its
headquarters in Davis, California.
North American Electric Reliability Corporation (http://www.nerc.com/)
The NERC develops reliability standards and provides education, training, and certifica-
tion for the power industry, including courses that deal with power generation and tech-
nology. NERC is a self-regulatory organization, subject to oversight by the U.S. Federal
Energy Regulatory Commission and governmental authorities in Canada. They also have
online courses for all aspects of power generation technology.
