BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT 21-5

is defined. Business process owners are identified, and business process management stan-
dards (e.g., methods, templates, IT support, etc. for business process management) are
        defined.
Methods applied in the macro business process management are the business process
map, chains of business processes, and networks of business processes. Macro business
process management provides the basis for micro business process management.
An example of a business process map of a training and consulting company is pre-
sented in Fig. 21.4. The business processes represented by boxes with dark frames (e.g.,
performing a consulting service or organizing an event) might require a project organiza-
        tion for their performance.

        Micro Business Process Management
The objective of micro business management is the description of single business
processes. The start and the end events of the business process are defined, its context is
described, the tasks of the process are identified and structured, the process flow is illus-
trated, and the organization for the fulfillment of the business process is designed.
Business process ratios in terms of time, quality, and costs are defined as the basis for the
        controlling of the business process.
Methods applied in micro business process management are process structure plans,
process flowcharts, process responsibility charts, and process ratios. Examples of the def-
inition of the objectives of a business process, of a business process structure, and of a
business process responsibility chart for the business process “organizing a seminar” are
shown in Fig. 21.5 and Tables 21.1 and 21.2.
