Dow Corning Z-6106 is suggested for adhesion promotion of polyetheretherketone.
Zinc oxide coatings were deposited by magnetron sputtering on the surface of
1
PEEK. These thin films exhibit the zincite form with a preferred orientation along the
1
[002] axis. Their microstructure varies from a large columnar structure to a more regular
1
one depending on the process parameters. The adhesion is promoted by argon plasma
1
1
treatment. The plasma treatment changes the polar component. The adhesion strength of
zinc oxide films is linked to the kinetic energy of the sputtered particles; the atomic bom-
bardment of the polymer surface during the deposition of the ZnO coating is the dominant
1
factor.
The conductive coated PEEK filament yarn can be used as a textile-based electro-
2
conductive functional element, especially in a strain sensor. Silver is applied on the sur-
2
face using wet procedure. To improve adhesion of the Ag layer, the PEEK monofilament
surface is treated with an atmospheric pressure plasma and it is subsequently coated with a
2
polyamine-based adhesion promoter.
The adhesion between the polyetheretherketone matrix and titanium fiber degrades
3
by the influence of humidity. The laser pre-treatment offers the best humidity resistance
3
because of its effect on surface roughness. The adhesion promoter causes enhanced initial
3
bonding strength but also reduced humidity resistance.
