Surface contamination caused by insects affects laminar air flow around wing surfaces,
resulting in an increase in drag and fuel consumption. The use of superhydrophobic coat-
1
ings mitigates insect residue adherence. A surface having a specific microstructure com-
1
bined with a low sliding angle showed the best anti-contamination properties.
Polysulfone aromatic polymer combined with an adhesion promoter and a reinforc-
ing fiber was used for the production of composite material utilized in automotive and
2
aerospace industries. The polyamideimide or a poly(amide-amic acid) polymer were used
2
as adhesion promoters.
A superhydrophobic coating composition that is a highly durable superhydrophobic
transparent coating for glass, metal, and plastic comprises hydrophobic nanoparticles of
3
silsesquioxanes as part of adhesion promoter. The coating is used to repel water droplets,
dew drops, and dust particles in various applications such as solar panels, wind turbines
surfaces, household components, metal coated furniture, marine equipment parts, marine
sports equipment like speed boat screens, automobile windshields, automobile plastic
3
components, auto bodies and aerospace applications.
