moset surfaces produce the fastest cure. Primers or heat application
may be required to achieve cure on inactive surfaces such as ther-
moplastics and certain metals. Photocuring has also been built into
anaerobic adhesives to allow light induced hardening outside adhesive
joints.
8.2.3.1.6 Adhesives in solid form (tape, film, powder). Single component
solid adhesive systems are made in several ways. One method is by
completely formulating the adhesive system, including resins, fillers,
curing agents, etc., in the liquid state and then converting it into a
solid state that is not completely cured. This conversion can be
through cooling of a melt form, or by the removal of solvent from a
solution, or by semicuring or ‘‘B-staging’’. B-staged adhesives are par-
tially cured to a solid state that is not completely crosslinked and will
still flow and bond with the addition of heat and pressure.
