A low temperature heat seal coating solution contains an amorphous or semi-crystal-
o
line polyester or copolyester resin (glass transition temperature in the range of -35 to 0 C
o
and softening point of 60-120 C), tackifier (pentaerythritol rosin ester of tall oil), anti-
blocking agent (a polyethylene wax with a ring and ball softening point of 126°C), a silica
antiblock agent having a median particle size of 6 microns, talc, and solvent (ethyl ace-
24
tate). The coating solution can be applied to a packaging web such as a foil or film by
converters using conventional methods such as gravure, rod, slot die, or printing process. 24
The heal seal coating can be sealed to itself or another substrate to manufacture food pack-
24
aging bags or pharmaceutical blister packaging. The heat seal temperature can be as low
24
as 70°C under conventional equipment and conditions in the industry. The following
composition performs according to the invention: 69.7 wt% solvent, 24 wt% heat seal
resin, 3.0 wt% tackifying resin, 1.9 wt% wax, 0.6 wt% silica, 0.2 wt% stearyl erucamide,
24
and 0.6 wt% talc.
Pressure sensitive adhesives for use in medical applications are urethane elastomeric
adhesives that include a polyurethane polymer, a compatible tackifier (may belong to any
group of typical tackifiers but must be biocompatible), and/or compatible plasticizer
25
(capric/caprylic triglycerides). The adhesive applied to skin that can eventually be
removed with very little trauma to the skin and with a low pain but which still exhibits
25
very good peel strength. The polyurethane does not contain reactive isocyanate groups
25
and has a weight average molecular weight of greater than 25,000 to 150,000 g/mol. The
25
polyurethane elastomer and plasticizer are biocompatible. The average pain rating upon
removal of the adhesive from human skin was less than 2.5 on the Wong-Baker pain
25
scale. The adhesive complied with a limit of a TA Peak Force in the range of 40 to 180
25
grams.
Constrained-layer damping material comprises of a bitumen, a binder, and a tacki-
26
fier. The bitumen is a soft grade bitumen with a penetration of at least 150 dmm and a
26
ring & ball softening point of >35°C. The tackifier contains a rosin derivate that is a vis-
cous liquid at the processing temperature, which is either methyl ester of rosin or the
methyl ester of hydrogenated rosin, or the triethylene glycol ester of rosin or the triethyl-
26
ene ester of hydrogenated rosin.
A semi-permanent cosmetic concealer composition for use on a target skin area that
includes from 10 to 80% of a non-aqueous carrier, from 15 to 35% of a tackifier compris-
27
ing a tall oil glyceride, and from 0.1 to 20 wt% of colorant particles. The semi-perma-
27
nent concealer composition is long lasting and has excellent wear characteristics. The
semi-permanent concealer compositions is used for concealing undesirable blemishes, dis-
27
colorations, and other cosmetic defects on skin. A long-wear concealer remains intact on
27
the skin for more than 24 hours.
The hot-melt adhesive compositions which have enhanced adhesion to difficult sub-
28
strates, particularly at refrigerator/freezer temperatures or at elevated temperatures. The
composition requires a base polymer comprising an ethylene vinyl acetate-containing
polymer; a tackifier; an adhesion promoting additive (a maleated polymer) comprising at
least one semi-crystalline polymer having a weight average molecular weight of 30,000
28
daltons or less; an optional wax; and an optional antioxidant. The tackifier gives tack to
28
the adhesive, and also lowers viscosity. Lower viscosity improves application flow char-
acteristics, allowing for easier processing, lower energy requirements, and lower process-
