Differences and difficulties in intercultural management interaction 281
Is the making light of difficulties a valued behaviour in British culture and an ex-
pression of the self-discipline culture standard, as Schmid (2003: 55–56) would sug-
gest? Or, in other words and more fundamentally, is not the use of self-report methods
to gain access to the intercultural interaction also liable to be influenced like all
methods of cross-cultural investigation not only by the cultural centredness of the in-
struments and the investigators but also by the culturally determined perceptual and
behavioural patterns of the respondents? Or is that not precisely what the investigator
wants to access?
