44 It’s Not a Glass Ceiling, It’s a Sticky Floor
putting our efforts into the right things at the right time for the right
reasons.
Do you want to know whether you’re working for a purpose or
working for the sake of working? Answer these questions:
• What have some of your past goals been?
• How did you know when you had achieved them?
• Did you take time out to revel in them? Or to at least do
something to congratulate yourself and signify the
accomplishment?
• If not, why not? Were you afraid of slowing down? Had it
been so long since you’d taken time for yourself that you
didn’t know how to? Did it never occur to you that you
might need a break?
Kicking a habit is hard and work can become a habit. If you have
an inkling that it’s time for you to move into a new work habit, but you
aren’t sure how to begin, think about these questions:
• Lately, have you felt like you’re hitting a wall, or that you’re
just flat-out tired?
• What are the triggers that make you feel you are in conflict
with yourself?
• What behaviors or subconscious patterns are the ones that
are not working for you anymore?
• What new behaviors would you like to use to replace those
that no longer work?
• What new boundaries and expectations do you need to set
with yourself and with others?
• What can you do today, tomorrow, and next week to start
moving in the right direction?
