Balancing Your Work and Life
Is Your Life Spinning Out of Control?
Have you ever had one of those days when you’re there in the office,
sitting at your desk and suddenly it occurs to you that you’re sur-
rounded by silence because everyone else has gone home?
You massage your brow and think about how stressed and
burned out you’ve been feeling at a job that once thoroughly ener-
gized you. You realize that more and more you’ve been thinking of
leaving. It seems like the requests and demands have kept building
and building to the point where they seem chronically impossible.
And your personal life? What’s that?
Or maybe you’ve looked up in horror to see that it’s 8 p.m. and you
immediately realize that you’ve missed your daughter’s “back-to-school
night,” or your son’s Little League game, or your yoga class or . . . fill
in the blank. You can’t believe you’ve let time get away from you. How
did this happen? You’re a good mom, girlfriend, wife, person—
although a very guilt ridden one right now. Where are your priorities,
you can’t help but think, knowing full well that the answer seems to
be staring up at you from your desk.
