Editors’ Biographies
Philip Alberstat

Philip Alberstat is a Partner at law firm Osborne Clarke. He works extensively for companies in the
film and broadcasting industries and represents numerous broadcasters, production companies, banks
and financial institutions.
Philip is on the editorial board of Entertainment Law Review and the advisory board of the British
Independent Film Awards. He speaks frequently at seminars and conferences on media-related
subjects, and lectures at the Raindance Film Workshop and the European Film Institute. He was the
winner of the 1997 HIFAL Lawyer Award as Solicitor of the Year and is the author of the Independent
Producers’ Guide to Film and TV Contracts (Focal Press, 2000).
Tom Cassels

Tom Cassels is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution Department of law firm Baker & McKenzie, and
is a member of the firm’s international media law group. He qualified as a Solicitor in 1994, and has
practised in London and Sydney.
Tom acts for a range of media clients including publishers, news agencies, online booksellers and
Internet service providers, as well as well-known individuals and companies who attract a high level
of media interest. Recent examples of Tom’s clients include the challenge by Camelot to the National
Lottery Commission’s decision to exclude it from competition for the new licence to operate the
National Lottery and Transport for London’s challenge to the proposed PPP for London
Underground.
Estelle Overs

Estelle Overs qualified as a Barrister in 1994. From 1994 to 2000 she practised as a Barrister at the
Chambers of George Carman QC. In 2001, she qualified as an Attorney in the State of California.
Estelle joined the Banking Department of the law firm Osborne Clarke in 2002 where she undertakes
all aspects of film finance and international film and television production work. She regularly
publishes and lectures on film finance, media-related issues and United States law.
