As you practice the new behaviors of overtness and clarity yourself
and role-model them to people around you, you’re showcasing your
new precedents. It will be apparent from their responses which of
these possible candidates are receptive to the changes you’re demon-
strating—in other words, the ones who will “tune in” to your broad-
cast. If you don’t already share a high level of trust with them, it will
begin to develop as they become your best candidates for addition.
When you have satisfi ed yourself that you’re ready to spend some
time and energy trying to work on a second addition, these receptive
individuals are the pool from which you can select one.
There’s even more good news. If you’re role-modeling consistently,
your second and subsequent additions will be easier than your fi rst.
Not only will you already know who your candidates are, but your
previous display of new precedents will have laid the groundwork to
help them convert themselves from candidates to additions in prog-
ress more quickly.
