        Some     Final Thoughts

        This  chapter  has emphasized the  importance  of  space/time  in  the  study  of
        natural  phenomena.  Space/time  can  be  dealt  with  on  several  levels  of  re-
        ality  associated with  different  physical  insights,  considerations  of  symmetry,
        and  restrictions  on  empirical  understanding.  We  derive  a  particular  geome-
        try,  however,  not  only  empirically  but  also  by theoretical  reasoning,  because
