Figure 4.5 (a) By placing a short ‘retention gap’ column before the cryotrap, solute will be
delivered to the collection zone, and when the trap is moved this will be effectively injected
into the analytical column. (b) The LMCS can be used to focus solutes just before the detector.
This gives very short, tall pulsed peaks which are many times taller than normal capillary GC
peaks.
