PUSH IT UP! | 9
My greatest desire is to help you fly. I want you to defeat
the demons that have been holding you down and keeping
you from taking off and reaching new heights in your career
and your life. But first, you have to earn your wings.
Push it up!
WALDO’S WINGTIP
When engaging enemy forces in combat, the flight lead calls
to his wingmen, “Commit! Commit!” This reaffirms to the
rest of the formation that they are “going for it” and there
is no turning back until the job is done.
True commitment only exists when it is aligned with
action, which is based on disciplined preparation, laser
focus, and, most of all, courage. This sort of courage says,
“Even though I may get shot at, I will carry on.”
Never take off on a mission unless you are 100 percent
committed to victory. Before you commit to a product dem-
onstration, a business meeting, or launching a new internal
strategy, take time to reaffirm what it means to commit. Ask
yourself (and your wingmen if they’re with you) if you are
truly willing to risk being shot at by the missiles of adversity,
rejection, and change. Are you willing to risk failure? When
the missiles are coming fast, will you push it up or pull it
back? This is the true test of commitment.
When your partners and customers see how committed
you are, they will become more loyal and will trust that you,
rather than give up in the heat of battle, will push it up for
them.
