178 New Trends in Coal Conversion
In this section, only the most relevant coal gasification plants in China are presented
briefly. They will be summarized attending to the coal gasification technologies
applied in each case. A fully comprehensive list and description is provided by the
National Energy Technology Laboratory in their report/database (US-China Energy
Center and National Research Centre for Coal and Energy, 2014).
7.2.1.1.1 East China University of Science and Technology
East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) and Yankuang Group
have developed a new OMB coal-water slurry (CWS) gasification technology, which
is currently widely used in China (Wang et al., 2016). It is designed for a coal capacity
range from 750 to 4000 tons/day for a single entrained flow gasifier to produce syngas
under high pressure (HP) and high temperature, 1.0e8.7 MPa and 1200 Ce1400 C,
with a carbon conversion usually higher than 98.5%. Details of the technology are pro-
vided by Guo (2017) and Guo and Yu (2017).
The success of the OMB gasification technology is proved by the fact that,
currently, there are 52 projects (144 gasifiers) licensed mainly not only in China but
also worldwide, of which 24 projects (63 gasifiers) are now in operation. Table 7.1
shows OMB gasification commercial projects still in operation.
