114 New Trends in Eco-efficient and Recycled Concrete
The addition of rubber sand in the matrix increases the cracking resistance of concrete
and delays the beginning of cracking.
Rubber sand increases the chloride ion penetration. This can be mitigated by replacing
10% of cement with silica fume or fly ash.
The addition of rubber sand in substitution of natural aggregates can reduce the carbon-
ation resistance of concrete.
The substitution of natural aggregates with rubber sand increases the concrete resistance
against HCl. On the other hand, the addition of rubber particles led to a higher mass loss
degree after exposure to sulphuric acid.
