different payloads. This means that a normal STS-3 carries three
separate STS-1 signals inside, as shown in Figure 3-14. However, in
a concatenated state, the total payload is one super rate multiplexed
signal at 155.52 Mbps instead of three smaller ones at 51.84 Mbps
each. This is shown in Figure 3-17.
