PURPOSE
This procedure addresses general safety practices and cau-
tions which must be reviewed and understood to assure safety
when performing maintenance or inspections of cooling towers or
fin fan coolers. It is not the intended purpose of this procedure to
be totally encompassing in its scope, but rather to supplement
established safety practices, policies and procedures, both general
and specific to the area or facility.
RECOMMENDED INTERVAL
These guidelines must be adhered to when performing main-
tenance or inspections of cooling towers and fin fan coolers.
GENERAL
Prior to performing maintenance or inspections of any equip-
ment, an understanding of safety procedures is required. Become
familiar with any special rules and/or regulations that may apply
to the specific area of the plant or facility that you will be working
in. Thoroughly review all emergency procedures. Often mainte-
nance personnel perform work in many different areas or loca-
tions and are not sufficiently familiar with emergency operational
procedures to be of assistance.
NOTE: It is advisable that a brief safety meeting be held each
morning to assure all personnel working in the area are aware of
