stood what was expected and so that those expectations
would be consistent for everyone.”
Now use the blank worksheet in Exhibit 2-9 to begin explor-
ing some of your own experiences and skills in terms of fea-
tures and benefits. Use your résumé to identify your features.
Remember, each feature may have many benefits. For each
feature you list, try to identify at least two different benefits.
You may want to make several copies of this worksheet for
practice. Once you have set up an interview, complete a
new worksheet, targeting the benefits to address any specifics
you have learned about the job or company through your
research.
RATE YOURSELF
To determine whether you are ready to move on to Chapter
3, ask yourself the questions in Exhibit 2-10, and rate yourself
on each one using a scale of 1 to 10.
If the self-rating for each of these questions is at least 7,
move on to Chapter 3. If you are still struggling, though,
review this chapter, and take some more time to practice your
new skill. This is critical because to ensure that you apply
your newly acquired feature/benefit skills effectively, you
