Branagh hadn't wanted to convey his own interpretation, there
would have been no justification for making his movie, since
Olivier's was perfect, in terms of its avowed intention, and could
not be improved on. An alternative, however, is something else,
enriching the cinematic tradition of Shakespeare, and that is pre-
cisely what Kenneth Branagh provided.
