           Because companies over the last few years have focused on optimizing
        the administration of onboarding programs, they have failed to update and
        expand their programs in ways that could capture significant new value.
        Companies today may sign up new hires for benefits more efficiently and
        with greater compliance, and in a fewer number of cases they might have
        computers and other tools ready for Week One, but they have not provided
        new hires with the knowledge, skills, encouragement, and other resources
        they need to excel at their jobs.
           We should remember a simple but relevant fact. Although employment
        can be fulfilling and a great experience, it still remains work at its heart,
        and work is hard. It inevitably includes challenges, frustrations, disap-
        pointment, and some disillusionment. It is hardly ever simply and entirely
